With the Helga Humming video projection, contemporary artist Anouk de Clercq offers the viewer a modern perspective on portraits from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The beautiful soundscape refers to the magnificent vocal lines of Flemish polyphony.

Centuries Collide

Actress and performer Helga Davis uses her powerful presence to provide a contemporary response to classical portraits from the Renaissance. Her gaze draws you in and fills the space.

In this work, music artist Vessel uses a compelling soundscape to reduce music to its most essential form: Helga's gentle humming forms an almost hypnotic soundtrack to this portrait, where the body serves as a resonating chamber.

Anouk De Clercq (°1979, Ghent) is a Belgian multimedia artist who lives in Berlin and Ghent. She explores the artistic potential of audiovisual installations to create potential worlds. She is also a founding member of Auguste Orts.
