Museum Hof van Busleyden- 2 December 2014 August to 8 March 2015
This participatory exhibition was part of a larger research project on the reimagining of Museum Hof van Busleyden. Policymakers, organisations, associations and then the museum visitors were presented with a number of questions: what should this museum convey? What is the relationship between the city and its museum? How can we engage visitors more in the museum's activities?
What connects Father Reus with the football clubs in Mechelen? Why is there a life-size wooden horse in the exhibition? How do you read a piece of Mechelen's history in a painting about puppetry? What silence can be heard in an enclosed garden, and what craftsmanship seen in the roaring cannon? In this exhibition, you could explore the many stories that make Mechelen and delve into the future of the city Museum.
With 53 participating associations, 10% of all returning visitors, 40 free activities, 10,000 distributed bread bags, 9 museum classes, 4 lectures and over 500 artworks by children, this exhibition placed the public at its centre.
